BETTE MIDLER: "I don't think that I will ever have children.  They are so - - - - mean to each other!  Children can be meaner than adults because they have no idea of the damage that they inflict."

Divine Miss M vs. Divine Mr. J.
Since when has camp-queen Bette Midler been concerned about her image? Since Rochelle Films Inc., a Las Vegas organization, decided to re-release The Divine Mr. J., a 1973 religious spoof with the Divine Miss M as a contemporary Virgin Mary. Perhaps the film, in which John the Baptist appears as a Central Park flasher squirting holy water out of a seltzer bottle, compares unfavorably to her respectable current film, The Rose, for which she is being mentioned for an Oscar. In any case, allegations of unlawful use of Midler's name and likeness in the ad campaigns have been leveled by the actress' attorney against Rochelle Films. Despite the charges, The Divine Mr. J., giving star billing to Midler, opens Jan. 25 in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Boston.

The music world's "Odd Couple of the Year" award goes to none other then Neil Sedaka & Bette Midler who sang & "danced" on Neil' special!

Bette Midler's telling everyone to stop saying her upcoming picture Rose is a bio on songstress Janis Joplin.  The story's "fictitious."

Bette Midler

Dear Rona,
I have had something on my mind for a long time.  For the past year, you have only had television stars on the covers of your magazines.  I don't think this is fair.  I know that the cover sells the magazine, but I have never seen Bette Midler on the cover of any of your magazines.  I have only seen one article written on her and that was in January of '74.  I think that it is about time that we had a cover story on her.

I have an interest in her because I am one of the few million people who like reading GOSSIP - she looks like someone who has a lot of things to gossip about.  Also, I have four photo albums of Barbra Streisand, and I would like to have the same on Bette.  Would you help me please?

Timothy Sondel accuses Our Ms. Rona of not "covering" Bette Midler enough, but Tim & other Midler fans will be happy to know we will cover her upcoming NBC special with a genuinely special photo feature soon!

Don't call BETTE MIDLER the Queen of Tacky anymore.  The divine Miss M. is making it in her own flick, The Rose, and her svelte figure has been cutting it with the jet set.  Now she's been honored by the Dutch music industry with the Edison Award for her album, Live At Last.  Bette also was a Dutch treat, in two TV specials, and the Hollanders made her concerts SRO there.  Bette's whole European tour has been a smash, playing to sold-out houses everywhere.  This is good news for the singer who not so long ago was struggling to entertain the customers in the tubs at a Manhattan Turkish bath!

Speaking of luck, BETTE MIDLER could use a little of it too.  Bette, who caused all kinds of trouble for those movie producers who tried to capitalize on her name, recently spent some time in Paris resting after her one-woman concert tour, but came back home with nary a new male address in her date book. Her on-again, off-again romance with her manager has cooled into a very business like arrangement now that she's Big Business, and her personal life has been very quiet. To fill her time, Bette got out her tap shoes for some catch up lessons, plus regular singing lessons, and a course in speed-reading too, just so she and her manager can quickly scan all the contracts that have been piling up in her absence.
