AN
INTIMATE EVENING WITH BETTE:
Anything but
Midler-of-the-road, the Divine Miss M takes her trash-with-flash act
across the country for her first nightclub tour in five years. Coming on
the heels of her first network TV special (NBC's Ol' Red Hair
Is Back) and coinciding with the release of her fifth album, Broken
Blossom. Midler's new stage show has played to SAO audiences in
Vancouver,
San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston. Next stop: New York's
Copacabana, where she begins a 10-day engagement this Thursday. Then on to Cleveland, Jan. 26-29. It's a long way from the Continental Baths.

FOR
THE ASK THEM YOURSELF EDITOR Miss
Midler, one of this country's fastest rising and most talented singers,
won't cooperate with the press, who are anxious to include her in
stories and articles. She says that unless the story is about her, and
her alone, she doesn't want to be in it, because she doesn't like
the idea of being lumped together with similar celebrities. Last year
she won “After Dark" magazine's Entertainer of the Year award,
and this year she won a Grammy Award for the Best New Artist. Incidentally,
another star who thinks the same way is Barbra Streisand. |
